TJ Morris was established over 40 years ago by Tom Morris. Since opening his first store in Liverpool, Tom has grown the business organically to become one of the biggest privately owned companies in the UK.
The company now boasts over 500 stores and employs more than 22,000 staff. It is the largest employer on Merseyside and is the largest independent grocer in the country.
Tom comes from a retailing family that has run shops for three generations. Following the family tradition, TJ Morris remains a family-run and family-owned business. The business operates on one key principle: to sell branded goods at the lowest prices possible.
The company intends to continue its rapid growth and has ambitious expansion plans. TJ Morris plans to grow to 1,000 stores, employing over 40,000 staff.

The Project
T J Morris is a forward-thinking company and with so many stores and such a vast stock inventory to manage, the team rely on the very best in technology & innovation to support their thriving business.
In order to deliver on their vision for the store of the future, they firstly had to deploy a secure, robust, resilient and future proofed wireless infrastructure across the full retail estate, complemented by a Managed Service.
One of the key drivers for implementing the solution was to gain further operational efficiencies in store. By using a combination of peripherals connected via the stores wifi to the back office they implemented a solution which enabled them to produce labels on demand & perform real-time stock audits. The result – reduced time spent walking from the back-office to the shop floor means more quality face-time with the customer, greater customer satisfaction and uplift in store revenues & productivity.
Workforce Management – they have also been able to go digital with their time and attendance solution, enabling the store managers to schedule staff rota’s and shift patterns in real-time and maximizing operational efficiencies, as well as delivering training content.
And with an increased emphasis on customer experience and the need to be “connected”, secure guest Wi-Fi can now be offered; particularly important as shoppers spend longer in the larger stores which have coffee shops and garden centres.
How Jade helped
Jade has successfully supplied a full end to end managed Wi-Fi solution to 350+ stores so far with the remainder still being rolled out and due to be completed by the end of 2021. All new stores are mandated for the wireless solution so by the end of 2021 we will have approximately 600 stores live with WiFi.
The solution delivered to TJ Morris is the Retail Stores Cloud Managed Wireless LAN & Managed Service comprising; KCOM Connectivity – fixed line, Cisco Routers, Extreme Switches, Cloud Managed Software & Access Points, Hosted Fortinet Firewalls, structured cabling, configuration services, installation services & Managed Service Contract.
As part of the Managed Service agreement, the Jade Service Desk are on hand to ensure full support through pro-active monitoring, on-going maintenance, remote troubleshooting and diagnostics, with an experienced team of customer service representatives. Anything that can’t be resolved remotely, Jade field their technical engineers and deliver next day on-site repairs/swaps for any failed equipment.
